Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) is a leading tourism and hospitality training and educational Institution in Malawi with training campuses in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu. The Institute also runs three application hotels, namely Alendo hotel in Blantyre, Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe and Mzuzu Lodge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Developing and reviewing policies, plans, charter and internal control systems
  2. Reviewing and advising on the effectiveness and adequacy of financial and operational systems and procedures
  3. Checking compliance with internal control procedure, statutory rules and regulations
  4. Identifying key risk areas in consultation with Management and advising on appropriate interventions
  5. Conducting internal audits and preparing reports for the Finance and Audit

Committee of the Board of Trustees

  1. Checking management accounts for errors
  2. Monitoring implementation of audit recommendations
  3. Collaborating with external auditors on audit matters
  4. Maintaining audit files
  5. Following up on audit queries to ensure that issues are properly resolved

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of Degree in Accounting or Auditing, plus professional qualification at chartered level (ACCA or CIA).
  • Member of Institute of Internal Auditors or ICAM
  • Three years relevant experience in internal or external audit.
