Mental Health Users and Carers Association (MeHUCA)

Mental Health Users and Carers Association (MeHUCA) is a volunteer-based, patient advocacy organization working directly with users of mental health services and their Carers. MeHUCA focuses on promoting and protecting the rights of persons with mental health conditions in Malawi by creating an enabling environment where they can thrive without discrimination and stigmatization.
MeHUCA is implementing a program funded by Disability Rights Fund (DRF). A vacancy has arisen in the Finance department for a finance officer contractual with possible renewal based on funding.

Position: Finance Officer
Reporting: Executive Director

General purpose of the position
The Finance Officer will work directly with MeHUCAs’ Executive Director and Programs officers to successfully ensure the implementation of Projects are executed timely and accordingly.The Finance officer will also be responsible in Finance and Administration by ensuring that Overall financial processes are adhered to and executed in a timely and qualitative way. He /She will be assisting
to ensure that internal finance processes and controls are followed, budgets, cashflow and other financial forecasts of all donor funds are prepared and work closely with the Executive Director in order to achieve program objectives and targets outlined in the project scope of work.

Specific duties will include:

  • Maintaining Accurate and complete financial records, including ledgers, invoices, receipts, and information related to supplies and inventory
  • Generating Financial reports, developing budgets, preparing taxes and assisting with Audits and resolving discrepancies
  • Drafting budgets, income statements, balance sheet, tax returns and reports required by regulatory authorities
  • Receive and process all invoices, expense forms and requests for payment
  • Preparing financial statements, reports, and forecasts for the organization to ensure financial stability
  • Preparation of bank reconciliation
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Maintenance of petty cash
  • General administrative duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Generate financial reports and submit to the Executive Director
  • Undertakes any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director


  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Atleast three years of progressive experience preferably on donor funded projects.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision, ability to accurately and efficiently analyse data and collaborate with other team members
  • Proficiency in accounting software will be an added advantage
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both English and Chichewa
  • Establish and maintain effective, positive and cooperative relationships with MeHUCA’s partners
  • Adapt to changing work demands
  • Manage task priorities and being able to meet deadlines
  • Work effectively under pressure
  • Work occasional weekends and evenings.
