United General Insurance Company is one of Malawi’s leading short term/general insurance companies and has been operating in Malawi for over 40yrs.The original name of the company was Pearl Assurance Company Limited. In 1995 the name changed to Property and General Insurance Company Limited following the sale of the business to Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation (ZimRe) United General Insurance Company is a result of merging Fide Insurance Company Limited and Property and General Insurance Company Limited as from 1^st July 1998.In terms of shareholding, National Bank of Malawi (NBM) holds 47% Shares, Nicoz Diamond Insurance (NDI) holds 34% Shares while ZIMRE Holdings Limited (ZHL) holds the remaining 19% shares.
